Spring 2021/ Hofstra Students present creative works addressing global issues

INTO Hofstra Virtual Celebration – Creative Solutions to Global Crises

During INTO Hofstra’s virtual celebration on May 14, international students showcased a variety of creative projects that explored solutions to global crises. The event featured a diverse range of submissions, from online games and flowcharts to PowerPoint presentations and creative writing.

Established in 2019, INTO Hofstra offers international students language instruction, as well as academic and cultural support, to help them succeed in the United States. According to Dr. Hanaa Wahba, the program’s director, students were encouraged to use creative mediums to “bring attention to global issues and find possible solutions.”

This year, the projects were inspired by topics like world peace, the work of Malala Yousafzai, and the global fight against COVID-19. Faculty advisors nominated students to present their work at the celebration, and attendees voted for their favorite projects.

The winners were:

  • First Place: Jiahao Wang (China) for a PowerPoint presentation and a poem on global peace.
  • Second Place: Lijuan Liu (China) for a flowchart on how to get young people more involved in global health issues.
  • Third Place: Feruza Karshibaeva (Uzbekistan) for an essay about overcoming personal obstacles.

All participating students received certificates for completing INTO’s Project-Based Learning Workshop.
