INTO Hofstra Cultural Diversity Celebration

At a recent celebration hosted by INTO Hofstra, international students showcased their creative projects exploring the theme of “Cultural Diversity Matters.” Led by Program Manager Hanaa Wahba, INTO Hofstra helps international students succeed by providing them with English language instruction and academic and cultural support.

Students presented on a range of topics, including cultural diversity’s impact on media, healthcare, finance, and community inclusion. After the presentations, attendees voted for their favorites. The top projects were:

  • First Place: Yousef Melais and Mohammed Al Habeeb (Kuwait) for their presentation on “Islamophobia.”
  • Second Place: Fatima Alsheikh and Salem Kayed (Kuwait) for “Culture Shock.”
  • Third Place: Shudong Zhang (China) and Ummuhani Bachmid (Indonesia) for “Traditional Medicine in Eastern Asian Culture.”
  • Fourth Place: Luisa Clemente (Brazil) for “Cultural Diversity in Television and Film.”

Other topics presented included the differences between Muslim and Western countries, cultural diversity in public health and finance, and the evolution of traditional clothing.

The students worked with Dr. Wahba and peer leaders Saradiba Hossain, Hana Aloh, Aleena Ali, Marisol Chabeli Hernandez Guerra, and Aleksandr Sukhodoev to prepare their projects.
